Upper Cervical Chiropractic is .......... On a September day in 1895, D.D. Palmer, a Davenport, Iowa health researcher, performed the first upper cervical Chiropractic correction. That correction, also known as an “adjustment”, was administered to the upper cervical spine of Harvey Lillard. Harvey had been suffering from hearing loss and quickly regained his hearing after his first adjustment. From that day forward, Chiropractors dedicated themselves to duplicating that first success.
It would take another 39 years before Chiropractors began to understand what had happened on that day in 1895. During the 1930’s, the Palmer School of Chiropractic and Dr. B.J. Palmer invested millions toward the construction of a research clinic. In 1934 the long awaited BJ Palmer Chiropractic Research Clinic opened. Over the next 3 decades, researchers at the BJPR Clinic studied, tested and refined their understanding of how the human body heals. Over 6,000 research subjects participated in the worlds largest and most extensive research project of it’s kind. At its conclusion, researchers found that injuries affecting the brainstem area of the spinal cord were detrimental to human health and could be linked to all or nearly all conditions affecting the human body.
The foundation for all Upper Cervical Chiropractic techniques can be traced back to the ground breaking research conducted at the BJ Palmer Research Clinic.
